“Never confuse motion with action.” - Benjamin Franklin
There’s a big difference between going through the motions and actually getting somewhere. You can have all the things but still be missing the Thing. Playing the role but missing the plot.
Your money, time, energy, and health are going to be spent regardless in this life, so it might as well be for something real.
Something solid.
Something worth it.
Instant gratification will get you some quick points, but it won’t add up to a fulfilling score.
Surface-level achievements are junk food for your soul. And the chasing of mere appearance will leave you feeling hollow. These feelings of emptiness and disillusionment are key indicators that something is off….way off.
Reverse-engineer this misaligned result.
Follow the thread upstream and find the origin.
Cut off the illusion at its source.
You want to exist in a world where the honest good path is how you win.
Where there is a level of real risk, real engagement. You’re on a real adventure, not playing pretend. You’re on the field, not the fantasy league.
What pulls you in deeply and calls for your commitment will be meaning and purpose and love.
Establish those at the origin and ride that all the way downstream.
Thomas Edison had it exactly right when he said:
“Opportunity is missed by most people because it’s dressed in overalls and looks like work.”
Great work isn’t impossible, it just takes longer. And the shortcuts won’t help. This isn’t as complicated as you might think.
I’ve found it freeing to focus (as much as I can) on slight improvements each day across the board. All the puzzle pieces in my life need ever so slightly tweaked towards the Better. A higher resolution. More greatness. More simplicity. More elegance.
It doesn’t matter if you start with a cardboard box.
You can end with a cathedral.
